Replacing sash weights in double hung windows




















Installation instructions. For over years, Pullman window sash balances have been the standard for double hung wood window restorations and replacements. Sash does not need to be removed from window. No bracket needed. Replacement Sash Balance Part Numbers Pullman replacement window balancer is available for window sash weights between 4 and 13 pounds.

For heavier window sashes, use Pullman standard balances. X-Ray View of Spring Counterbalance. Lift out the weight if it has broken away from the cord and drop down any other weights still attached to unbroken cords. Untie any remaining cord pieces from the weight and set the weight aside. Use the old cord to measure and cut a length of new cord. Tie a washer to the end of a string, then tie then drop the washer down the cord hole and pull it out of the bottom.

Tie the new cord length to the new weight. Tie the washer end of the string to the new cord and pull the new cord up and out of the top hole. Feed the cord through the pulley and untie the string. Feed the cord through the sash channel and secure it with a knot.

Replace the metal cover, tracks and window sash and reposition the window stop. Repeat the entire process on the other side if necessary.
