Case annealing tools

The automatic case feeder can handle several hundred. The case feeder can handle cases from. Simple adjustment knob to control the feeder trolley speed at the users discretion Solid metal base with screw mounted rubber mounting feet to prevent unnecessary marring of table tops and work surfaces Interchangeable feeder disc wheels available for most cartridge case sizes so you can set the machine for optimal performance for a specific cartridge case size with little to no adjustments required Due to ITAR regulations the Giraud Cartridge Case Annealer is not available for purchase to customers outside of the U.

In my experience, the Anneal-Rite cuts at least a third of the time from annealing cases individually but takes longer to set up. Several companies offer more sophisticated gas-flame annealing tools, often with electric motors and timers, starting at several hundred dollars. Wolcott Industrial Pkwy. The A. Plug it in, then set the program by pressing a couple of buttons.

Testing this claim obviously requires accurate rifles and uniform brass, so I decided to try it with a custom 6mm PPC benchrest rifle and a New Ultra Light Arms. The Norma brand 6mm PPC brass had already been weight-selected and neck-turned. After annealing in the A. The manufacturer has found annealing time depends primarily on case neck and shoulder thickness, and my Nosler brass was.

The downside of the A. I am severely tempted, because not only is the A. Annealing can even help accuracy with new brass, particularly some of the recent cases that are often rushed out a factory door a little too quickly.

This eliminated sizing and trimming time, allowing Charlie to make more rifles. So Charlie phoned me, something he occasionally does when really desperate — which is fair, since I sometimes do the same to him.

So I described the candle technique, and the next day Charlie called back, saying I was a genius. We soon discovered that the motor-driven semi-automatic annealers were quite expensive, upwards of dollars. In our opinion, that price is way too much for just one step in the reloading process. Our founders took their background in tool and die design and got to work on a better solution. We continued to perfect those initial designs, and the Anneal-Rite brass annealing machine is the result.

The Anneal-Rite system is easy, affordable and American-made. The Anneal-Rite rotates cases vertically between two propane torch flames torches optionally available. Rotation is safely performed by hand with a wooden knob, ensuring even heat distribution and unparalleled control.

Eleven standard Cartridge Case Holders are available which accommodate hundreds of different cases from. When you are ready to increase the life of your brass and improve accuracy safely with a brass annealing machine, Anneal-Rite does it best. Our machine is very affordable, constructed of strong gauge steel. Perfect, safe results guaranteed just follow the simple instructions included. Insert a case into the gage, now your caliper reads the exact rim thickness, which is that cases headspace.

It has been proven that annealing your brass can increase the accuracy and the life of the brass, and our Anneal-Rite brass annealer provides a safe, easy, accurate, and affordable annealing option. But be aware, some are clearly misleading and can result in damaging the brass due to overheating. One of the Lee Precision electric casting pots is an ideal solution.

One solution is to bend a piece of sheet metal to fit. Once the sand is heated to the desired temperature, stick a case neck down into the sand until it hits the metal stand.

Stick another case in the sand and remove the 1st one. Increase the heat if the necks are not getting sufficiently hot as indicated by a subtle color change. Do not leave the cases in very long or the entire case will become annealed and soft, resulting in an unsafe condition when the resulting cartridge is fired.

Hand annealing using a propane torch The hand annealing process I used consisted of heating the neck of a slowly rotating case with a propane torch in a brightly lit room.

To ensure the necks reached the correct temperature and were not overheated, Tempilaq, a temperature indicating fluid was used. Once applied it quickly dries. When the Tempilaq temperature is reached it liquefies and typically changes color.

Once the correct heating duration was determined, Tempilaq was not used with the rest of the cases. After annealing, the case was dumped out of the socket onto a soft towel. Quenching the hot case in water does not affect the annealing process and will not harden the brass. Fortunately it dries quickly. After heating the grayish dark residue should dissolve with water if it was not overheated and baked on. I use Remington cases which are normally annealed shortly after being cleaned in a tumbler with ceramic media.

What I found interesting is when the correct temperature was reached the color change in the necks was very subtle. They did not turn a deep blue or display the vivid colors seen in some photos of annealed brass and in a few of the YouTube videos.

It is my opinion that the vivid colors are a result of over-heating the necks or possibly due to oxidizing of the case surface from aging. The following photo displays the before and after annealing results of brand new Remington, Winchester and Starline brass and is similar to the color change of freshly cleaned brass.
